    The ideal candidates will be able to prepare traffic signals, communication, signing/striping, and ITS plans under the supervision of a Senior Engineer.  This position offers an excellent opportunity for technical growth, and learning project management responsibilities. Good communication and writing skills are important.

    • Excellent AutoCAD and Microstation skills
    • Specific experience in traffic signal, signing/striping, ITS design
    • Other skills such as Synchro, signal timing, HCS+, Traffic Impact Analysis, are a plus
    • Effective written and oral communication skills

    Assistant Transportation Planner/Engineer

    LSA’s Riverside office is seeking an Assistant Transportation Planner/Engineer.  Candidates should be familiar with the fundamentals of traffic engineering and level of service analysis.  The ideal candidate will have experience in the four step traffic assignment process, research and technical analysis, intersection level of service software (e.g., Synchro, Vistro, Traffix), and microsimulation software (e.g., SimTraffic, Vissim, TransModeler).  The candidate should also have the ability to convey technical information through report writing, including documentation of complex topics in a concise and understandable manner. Excellent written communication skills are a requirement.

    Desired skills include familiarity with traffic operations software (e.g., Synchro, Vistro, Traffix); travel demand modeling software (e.g., TransCAD, Visum, Cube/Voyager); geographic information system (GIS) applications; drafting software (e.g., AutoCAD), research of transportation, land use, and environmental topics; and spreadsheet (e.g., Excel) applications.

    The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in transportation planning, traffic engineering, urban planning, or a related field.

    The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Engineer to fill one (1) vacancy in the Traffic Engineering Division of the Public Works Department.  

    The Assistant Engineer in the Traffic Engineering Division will prepare and review traffic signal and signing and striping plans & material submittals, design projects to enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety, prepare and maintain traffic signal coordination timing, review Traffic Impact Analyses for new developments, review temporary traffic control for special events, and work closely with residents to manage neighborhood traffic requests.

    Education and Experience:

    A Bachelor’s degree in civil or mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university, or a Bachelor’s degree in a closely related area from an accredited college or university and one year of experience performing professional engineering work.
    Highly Desired Qualifications:

    • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
    • Possession of an Engineer-In-Training Certificate.
    • Experience using Synchro software.
    • One year of experience in the review and/or preparation of Traffic Impact Studies.

    Necessary Special Requirement 
    Possession of an appropriate, valid class “C” California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
